The CHEVROLET Cruze Eurocup’s action-packed heated battle at Automotodrom Grobnik!

Automotodrom Grobnik. The CHEVROLET Cruze Eurocup celebrated its premiere in Croatia at Automotodrom Grobnik from August 3 to 5, 2018. Following the first two weekends of the season at Hungaroring as part of the FIA WTCR and at the Red Bull Ring, the Automotodrom Grobnik posed a new challenge for all drivers as the racing track was on the CHEVROLET Cruze Eurocup racing calendar for the first time. The Croatian racing track is one of the fastest and most challenging tracks in Europe at just under 4.2 kilometers long. The whole asphalt surface was renewed at the start of 2018 and therefore offers the best conditions for great touring car motor racing.

The CHEVROLET Cruze Eurocup is an affordable way of enjoying touring car motor sport, and thrills drivers and fans alike with close wheel-on-wheel duels. In particular, the appealing look of the racing cars, and the prize for the overall winner, a free test drive in a TCR racing car, all add to the excitement.

Christoph Pflügler (GER, U4 Automotive Racing) started his second race weekend in the CHEVROLET Cruze Eurocup in Grobnik!

The topic that dominated everything on this race weekend was of course the high temperatures. At more than 34 degrees Celsius outside, it was a huge challenge for the racing cars and drivers to cope with the heat. It can be at least double the outside temperature in the racing car cockpit.

One or two drivers were therefore bound to be twice as happy to jump into the nearby sea to cool down once their work behind the steering wheel was done!

Not a perfect starting position for David Wassermann – but he remains unbeaten in the races!

The racers got used to the racing track at Automotodrom Grobnik more and more during the first open training sessions and the low time differences promised a lot of excitement for the races, as usual. The first surprise was already to be announced during the first qualifying session: guest starter Wolfgang Kriegl (AUT) managed to push David Wassermann (GER) from the top spot for the first time this season and snatched pole position for the first race from him. Christoph Pflügler (GER) sensationally secured the second starting position and David Wassermann had to settle for third place on the starting grid in this case.

After a little slump during the first qualifying session, David Wassermann fought back and won both races!

“Jump start” by Wolfgang Kriegl paves the way for David Wassermann’s win in race 2

With Kriegl having been able to maintain his lead in the first race initially, the youngster Wassermann then managed to overtake him with an impressive maneuver in the second lap and confidently drive the win home.

It was made even easier for him in the second race due to a jump start by Kriegl, as due to the subsequent drive through Wassermann safely took the lead and also brought the second win home. Christoph Pflügler was able to take third place in both races and thus highlight just how competitive he is in his still young touring car career.
