Top 6 result for the Pfister Racing team in the Octavia Cup at the Slovakia Ring
Slovakia Ring. The ultra-modern racing track at the Slovakia Ring near Bratislava (Slovakia) heralded the second half of the Skoda Octavia Cup season from August 17 to 18, 2018. The drivers have to cope with the challenging mix of technical combinations of curves in-field and very fast courage-testing bends during the course over 5,922 kilometers. Following several good results so far during the racing season, the Pfister Racing team was highly motivated and set to work again on providing the driver Wolfgang Kriegl (AUT) with a superbly prepared racing car.
Team leader Andreas Pfister commented as follows: “As we can tap into a wealth of experience in racing cars from the Volkswagen group in our team, we are of course also well set up on the technical side with the Skoda Octavia Cup racing car. We were able to make more progress with the chassis set-up in several test runs before the racing weekend by working together with our driver Wolfgang Kriegl and are therefore going into the competitive races with a good feeling.”
Wolfgang Kriegl battled for places with great commitment in both races
The Skoda Octavia Cup presents many racers with a cost-effective alternative to the TCR series as Octavia Cup racing cars are only slightly different to TCR ones in terms of performance but almost 50% cheaper to bring to the circuit in terms of input costs.
With a highly professional ÖHLINS chassis and a DSG direct shift gearbox, the Octavia Cup racing car offers a whole load of driving fun, on renowned racing tracks too!
After “complicated” time training: a great catch-up battle in race 1
In the qualifying session to establish the starting grid, the Pfister Racing team had to put up with a bit of a damper on their ambitions with 9th starting position, but Wolfgang Kriegl managed to move forwards over the course of the laps shortly after the rolling start to the first race.
He achieved very fast lap times at the end of the race in particular, putting pressure on the competition ahead of him. As a result, he managed to bring a good 6th place home and crossed the finish line just behind the driver in fifth place.
A turbulent race follows for pole position in the second competitive race
Due to the reverse starting order, the Pfister Racing team grabbed pole position for the second race and therefore had a great starting position. However, Wolfgang Kriegl was to really be put to the test in the turbulent race that followed:
following a start phase that didn’t go ideally and then a little “detour” into the gravel bed, Kriegl had to join the middle field again. However, he was able to complete faster lap times than the driver in front of him and make up some positions again. Contact was made in the fight with a competitor though which resulted in a broken track rod. Kriegl therefore had to leave his Octavia at the side of the track lying in this promising position.
An involuntary “show” caused turbulence in the second race
“Things are very tight in a brand cup, which is why the positive signals very clearly prevail for us after this racing weekend. Wolfgang Kriegl was able to drive faster than most of his competitors in both the first and second race, which give us additional motivation for the rest of the season. The first pole position of the season is also a great memory. We were able to gain more important championship points in the first race. I would like to thank our team members Mirek Göbel and Leandra Miller for the fantastic effort they put in during the race weekend.” said Andreas Pfister.
