Victory for Pfister-Racing in the 12-hour race at Slovakia Ring
Slovakia Ring. This year’s 12-hour endurance race started on June 20, 2019 at the Slovakia Ring. The drivers Wolfgang Kriegl (AUT) and Andreas Pfister (GER) competed in this race for the Pfister-Racing Team with the 350 hp SEAT Leon TCR racing car. The ultra modern 5.922 km long race track in Slovakia is one of Wolfgang Kriegl and Andreas Pfister’s declared favorite racing tracks, providing the ideal conditions for the endurance race.
The Pfister-Racing Team completed more than 263 problem-free laps and won the 12-hour race.
“A 12-hour endurance race should never be underestimated. Both the physical strain for the drivers and the strain on the racing car is very high with this huge racing distance. It’s not only the driving ability that counts, but also a perfect team performance. This is the only way to bring a win home in the end,” says Andreas Pfister when talking to the media.
The team and drivers were also put to the test with midsummer temperatures of more than 25 degrees Celsius. “In a racing car it’s at least twice the outside temperature, so it’s very challenging to keep your concentration at a high level under this physical strain,” says Pfister. “We knew that we were well prepared on the technical side with our racing car, but we’re all the more happier of course that it went so well. The key to our success was the total reliability of our racing car with more than 263 completed laps, the steady drivers and the outstanding teamwork. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our team with Alois Pfister, Alfred Hutzel, Bozo Erak and Jelena Erak for their great work!”
Rain shower just before the end of the race provides a scary moment
With the Pfister-Racing Team having to be satisfied with second place in the first third of the race, the team managed to work their way forward and take over the lead in the race. From the halfway point, this could then be increased even more with fast lap times. “We were really well positioned in the race and the theory was to bring the last few minutes of the race home safely without any risk. But the weather put a spoke in our wheel,” says Pfister.
Even a heavy rain shower just before the end of the race was certainly not enough to stop the Pfister-Racing Team.
The heavens suddenly opened at the Slovakia Ring about 20 minutes before the end of the race. Racing driver Wolfgang Kriegl was at the racing car’s wheel and reacted just right: He headed straight to the pits with the smooth tread slick tires. The team quickly managed to change to the rain tires there and Andreas Pfister was able to bring home the great race victory for Pfister-Racing under wet conditions with safety car phases. The team now also occupies the top place in the Endurance Championship and wants to build on this and maintain it in the remaining two endurance races.
